How it works: 

  1. Submit your concept and information in the form of a Student Exhibitor Application.

    • Please include all of the necessary information requested.

  2. You will be awarded a free exhibition booth at SGC where you will showcase your work.

  3. Your Submission will be evaluated by our Committee as part of an initial screening.

  4. Qualifiers will be selected to move to the next round and present their work to a panel of game industry professional.

  5. The winner will present their progress on the game at Celebration of Scholarship.

Rules 

Eligibility Requirement(s) & Condition(s):

  1. Participants must be currently enrolled students at Shawnee State University.

  2. Participants must be available for:

    • Each round of competition

    • Shawnee Game Conference

    • Celebration of Scholarship (Spring Semester)

  3. Teams must display a booth at Shawnee Game Conference.

  4. The winning team must present their updated work at Celebration of Scholarship.

What to Submit:

Your initial submission is your chance to make a strong first impression. Our evaluation team will carefully review each submission, looking for promising concepts that demonstrate creativity and potential. We must also verify that the submission follows all the eligibility requirements.

Team Information:

  • Full Name

    • Individual or Team Name.

    • If team list all members and roles

    • If this is a team, please submit a single packet. If needed, designate an individual to be the primary representative but include all names.

    • Email Address(es) (please include Shawnee State email for identification purposes)

    • Phone Number (primary contact)

  • Portfolio or Website (if available)

Game Information:

  1. Game Title

  2. Genre (e.g., action, strategy, role-playing)

  3. Platform (e.g., PC, console, mobile)

  4. Target Audience

  5. Razor Statement

    • Your game's name and a captivating one-liner that sums up its essence.

  6. Game Design Summary

    • Provide a concise written summary of your game design, limited to 300 words. This is your opportunity to grab the attention of our evaluation team.

  7. Supporting Materials

    • Include any additional materials that can enhance your pitch. While this is not your final presentation, visual aids like slides or concept art can help convey your vision effectively. (Any words in supporting material does not count towards the 300-word summary.)

 

Competition Structure

Initial Review:

The evaluation team will assess your initial packet to determine if it meets the quality & eligibility standards.

If your submission meets all the requirements you will be notified and advance to the preliminary rounds of pitching workshops. Each workshop more will be requested of you and the standards will gradually increase.

Competition Schedule:

*Exact dates will be sent to qualified teams.

  • Initial Submissions

    • Submit: 1-Page Design Doc

    • Due: 1-month prior to SGC

  • Pitching Workshop

    • Attend: Pitching Workshop

    • Submit: 3 Page Game Design Doc

    • When: 3-Weeks Prior to SGC

  • Round 1: First Pitches

    • Attend: First Round Pitches

    • When: 3-Weeks Prior to SGC

  • Semi-Final Round

    • Attend: Semi-Final Pitching Round

    • When: 1-week before SGC

  • Final Round:

    • Attend: Shawnee Game Conference

      • Booth must be set up.

      • Must be available for scheduled pitch competition.

    • When: Shawnee Game Conference

Prize

The ultimate prize for the winning team is a $1000 grant to continue development of the project.

  • The prize is a research grant to continue working on your project.

  • Not all of the grant will be granted at one time.

  • Receipts will be tracked for the use of your grant.

How to sign up

You will need to request an expo booth at SGC. This booth will serve as your platform to display your work to the public and provide previews to the judges.
